New Jersey unemployment insurance can pay eligible workers after a job loss through no fault of their own. NJDOL checks your earnings and the reason you stopped working, then determines your benefit amount. Regular benefits are limited by your claim balance and generally cover no more than 26 weeks. You must certify for each week you claim and generally be able, available, and actively looking for work. Apply through NJDOL, follow its identity-verification instructions, and keep up with requests and appointments. Filing an application does not itself mean benefits are approved.

What to do next

Review NJDOL's eligibility page, then follow the official online application guide and your claim's weekly instructions.
