How do I find my New Jersey property tax bill and assessment records?

Practical guidance, useful next steps and official sources for New Jersey residents.

Start with the official website for the municipality where the property is located. The municipal tax collector handles bills, payments and balances; the tax assessor handles assessed values and property assessment questions. New Jersey's Property Explorer also provides parcel information, including block and lot, assessed land and building values, and prior-year taxes. That state dataset comes from annual assessment lists filed in January, so later ownership changes may be missing. It is not a current payment balance. For an up-to-date bill or a discrepancy, contact the municipal office and have the property address or block and lot ready.
