Overview

Stephen M. Sweeney is a New Jersey political figure and labor leader who served as president of the New Jersey Senate from 2010 to 2022. He represented the 3rd Legislative District in the Senate for two decades. The district includes municipalities in Gloucester County, Salem County, and Cumberland County.

Before his legislative career, Sweeney worked in the construction industry and became an official with the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers.
