Overview

Nicholas P. Scutari is a New Jersey state legislator and attorney who serves as president of the New Jersey Senate and represents the 22nd Legislative District. The district includes municipalities in Union County, including Linden, Plainfield, Rahway, and surrounding communities.

Scutari has served in the New Jersey Senate since 2004. Previously, he served on the Linden Board of Education from 1994 to 1997 and as a Union County freeholder from 1997 to 2004. He was Linden municipal prosecutor from 2003 to 2020.

In 2022, Scutari became president of the New Jersey Senate following the departure of the previous Senate president. In that role, he presides over the upper chamber of the state legislature and plays a central role in legislative agenda-setting, committee assignments, and negotiations on statewide policy issues.
