Commissioner Director, Camden County Board of Commissioners
Louis Cappelli Jr. has served as Commissioner Director of the Camden County Board of Commissioners since 2006, making him one of the longest-serving county leaders in New Jersey. A practicing attorney since 1987, he built his career in public service and private law practice simultaneously, developing expertise in governmental affairs, labor relations, and regulatory policy. He is a managing partner at Florio, Perrucci, Steinhardt & Cappelli, LLC in Cherry Hill, where he handles education law, lobbying, land use, and real estate matters.
Cappelli's path to county leadership ran through municipal service in his hometown of Collingswood. He served six years on the Collingswood Board of Education and another decade as a borough commissioner before winning election to the Camden County Board of Commissioners in 2003. His legal background shaped his approach to county governance, particularly in public finance, public safety restructuring, and intergovernmental negotiations. Over three decades in office, he has steered Camden County through major policy shifts including the dissolution of the Camden City Police Department and the creation of a countywide force, the establishment of an Office of Mental Health and Addiction, and the ongoing $100 million Parks Alive initiative to overhaul the county's 24 parks and green spaces.
