Joe Hathaway was born in 1987 and raised in Clifton, New Jersey. He attended Clifton High School, where he captained the football and track teams. Hathaway later attended Yale University, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While at Yale, he played varsity football and earned All-Ivy League honors.
After graduating from Yale, Hathaway began his career in government as an advance aide to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. He later transitioned into the private sector, working in corporate communications and government relations roles across healthcare, insurance, and financial services industries.
Hathaway became active in local government in Randolph Township, Morris County. He served on the Randolph Recreation Advisory Committee before being elected to the Randolph Township Council in 2022. In 2025 he became mayor of Randolph Township.
In 2025, Hathaway announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, seeking to flip the seat previously held by Mikie Sherrill, who later became governor.
