Gregory E. Myhre

Republican Party
Position

New Jersey General Assemblyman, District 9

Background
Gregory E. Myhre is a Republican legislator and former municipal official representing New Jersey's 9th Legislative District, a staunchly Republican constituency centered in Ocean County. He was elected to the General Assembly in 2023 after defeating longtime incumbent DiAnne Gove at the Ocean County GOP convention, and he was sworn into office in January 2024.
Myhre built a career in municipal government and regulatory compliance before ascending to the state legislature. He served as Mayor of Stafford Township from 2019 to 2024 and concurrently held a Class I appointment to the Stafford Township Planning Board during that period. His municipal tenure overlapped with his service on the Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Fund and as a member of the Ocean County Republican Committee from District 6.
Professionally, Myhre has worked as a regulatory compliance officer for the Toms River Municipal Utilities Authority. He also owns Independent Technologies LLC, a technology services company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Maryland and a Graduate Certificate in Geospatial Intelligence from Pennsylvania State University.
In the Assembly, Myhre serves on the Appropriations Committee, where he has positioned himself as a fiscal conservative and outspoken critic of state spending. He was re-elected in November 2025 alongside Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, with both lawmakers running on a platform of property tax relief, utility cost reduction, school funding formula reform, and opposition to sanctuary state policies.
The 9th District, which includes Long Beach Island, Little Egg Harbor, Stafford Township, and surrounding Ocean County communities, has become one of New Jersey's most Republican legislative districts. The district delivered Donald Trump a 29-point victory margin in 2024 and gave Republican gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli a 36-point advantage over Governor Phil Murphy in 2021.
