Three North Jersey Men Charged in Human Trafficking and Sexual Assault Case Involving Minor

Three North Jersey men have been charged in a disturbing criminal case involving human trafficking, sexual assault, and child exploitation, according to state prosecutors.

Authorities allege the defendants targeted a 13-year-old girl, coercing her into prostitution and subjecting her to repeated sexual abuse. Prosecutors also say the case involved the production of explicit images involving the minor, with the alleged crimes spanning multiple cities across New Jersey.

The announcement was made by Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, following a multi-agency investigation.

Defendants Charged

The defendants identified by prosecutors are:

  • Mickael Derius, 30, of Newark
  • Terry D. Nero, 44, of Elizabeth
  • Jonathan C. Ramirez, 29, of East Orange

Each man faces multiple felony charges, including human trafficking of a minor, sexual assault, and production of child sexual abuse material.

Allegations and Investigation

According to investigators, the defendants allegedly worked together to exploit the victim, transporting her across different locations and facilitating acts of sexual abuse for profit. Law enforcement agencies were able to identify and locate the victim during the investigation and subsequently charge the suspects.

State officials emphasized that crimes involving the exploitation of children are treated with the highest priority and carry severe penalties under New Jersey law.

Potential Penalties

If convicted, the defendants could face lengthy prison sentences, mandatory parole supervision, and registration requirements related to sex-offense convictions. Prosecutors say the charges reflect New Jersey’s aggressive approach toward combating human trafficking and protecting minors from sexual exploitation.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking

State and local authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of human trafficking or child exploitation. Officials note that tips from the community often play a critical role in identifying victims and stopping ongoing abuse.

The case remains pending in New Jersey courts.
