NJ SNAP helps eligible households buy groceries through a Families First electronic benefits card. Benefits can be used at participating grocery stores, some farmers markets and approved online retailers. Eligible purchases include fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, bread, and seeds or plants that grow food. SNAP does not cover alcohol, tobacco, medicines or household supplies; online delivery and service fees also cannot be paid with SNAP. The amount depends on the household's circumstances. New Jersey supplements approved monthly federal benefits below $95 to reach a $95 minimum, beginning with the first full eligible month. The county agency determines eligibility and benefits.
