New Jersey State Senate, 7th Legislative District
Troy E. Singleton is a Democratic member of the New Jersey Senate representing the 7th Legislative District, which encompasses 17 municipalities in Burlington County. The district's most populous communities include Mount Laurel Township, Burlington Township, Delran Township, Cinnaminson Township, Moorestown Township, and Willingboro Township. Singleton assumed office on January 9, 2018, and was re-elected in 2021 and 2023. He currently serves as Senate Majority Whip and chairs the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee.
Born on June 30, 1973, in Philadelphia and raised in Willingboro Township, Singleton graduated from Willingboro High School and earned a B.S. in business administration with a specialization in finance from Rowan University in 2005. His professional career spans labor union leadership, political operations, and corporate management. He worked as an aide to Assemblyman Herb Conaway and as political director for Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts before winning election to the legislature. He is a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 255 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Anywhere Integrated Services and President of Realogy Insurance Agency.
Singleton's public service includes appointments to the Burlington County Bridge Commission (2009–present), the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (2009–2011), and the Rowan University Board of Trustees (2009–2011). He was deputy executive director of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee in 2001. In 2017 he became the first African-American from Burlington County to win a seat in the New Jersey Senate, defeating Republican John Browne with over 65% of the vote in an open seat previously held by Republican Diane Allen.
