Atlantic County Executive
Dennis Levinson is the Atlantic County Executive, serving as the chief executive of Atlantic County, New Jersey, since January 2000. A Ventnor native and graduate of Atlantic City High School, Levinson is the longest-serving county executive in Atlantic County history, having won election to seven consecutive four-year terms. Prior to his executive service, he worked for three decades as a history teacher in the Northfield Public Schools District, earning a reputation as one of the district's most popular educators. He entered public service as a member of the Northfield City Council from 1982 to 1986 before winning election as an Atlantic County Freeholder-at-Large. He served fourteen years on the Board of Chosen Freeholders, including six terms as Freeholder Chairman.
Levinson has built a reputation for fiscal conservatism, maintaining the county's AAA and AA credit ratings from major rating agencies, achieving 24 consecutive perfect independent audits, and keeping debt levels low while maintaining stable tax rates. Under his leadership, Atlantic County has diversified its economy beyond casino gaming and tourism through the development of the National Aerospace Research and Technology Park.
